The Kraken have finally pulled out of their death spiral! Let’s kick it!
Of course, they still gotta play today. Against a team that can currently call itself the reigning, defending champions of the Stanley Cup…and a helluva reputation that they’ve loved living down to.
The Florida Panthers are not in the playoff picture at the moment due to a number of injuries; namely not having Sasha Barkov, Jonah Gadjovich, Cole Schwindt, Seth Jones, with Sam Reinhart, Brad Marchand, and Sam Bennett on day-to-day. Follow that up with their goaltending returning to earth and their expected goals-for crashing to 14th overall in the league, and you can see the Cup Hangover season label being applied nice and tidily to the packaging of this season for Florida. Doesn’t even go over a line.
Of course, that doesn’t make them any less of a challenge; Seattle played last night and the Panthers didn’t; so they need to take the good vibes of Bobby McMann’s debut and apply that to some tired legs against a fresh team that is more than willing to turn games to speed boat races if they have to. Keeping the net-front clear is going to be crucial for the Kraken tonight as the Panthers love to go fishing for rebounds in the slot.
Further, if there’s any one thing the Kraken need to watch out for, it is the Panthers’ themselves. The Cats are rapidly becoming infamous for a number of things, but being goon adjacent in a league that’s moving away from goons is definitely high up there. Everybody needs to keep their heads on a swivel and make sure they keep Florida either at arm’s length, or make sure they get answered for their transgressions.
