Happy New Years from all of us at Davy Jones’ Locker Room! Let’s all join together to watch the Kraken take on the moribund, directionless, deeply…
[Checks Notes]
…2 win streak having, 7-3-0 in their last ten and finally rising off the mat Nashville Predators.
This year is a comedy of confusion.
Yes, Nashville looked for all the world like they were dead in the water starting the year, but if there was a team that was due to actually improve from their miserable place in the NHL after last year based on their game-to-game performance, the Preds were doing a lot of the right things: 10th in the league in xGF%, absolutely ensconced in shooting from the net-front, and of course the resurgence of Steven Stamkos and Filip Forsberg; who are coming alive to be major scoring threats. Combine that with the usual talents of Juuse Saros and Justus Annunen and this is now a much scarier team than you might expect.
Of course, the Kraken certainly aren’t going away without a fight. They’ve picked it up just as much over the last few weeks, and are finally finding themselves back into a decent rhythm now that they’re finally getting their youngs back from Injured Reserve as well as giving them some chances to really show their stuff, and to their credit? I think they have or at least getting there.
If there’s anything the Kraken can do to get their opportunities through, I think shots from the point may actually be quite useful this year, as Saros and Annunen have a bizarre tendency to let shots in from either really close in or really really far out, so creating rebound opportunities or exploratory shots would really put them in a good position to succeed.
LET’S GO KRAKEN, LET’S GO SQUIDS
