Life could always be worse. The Kraken have pulled themselves out of a tailspin and are now maybe not the best team in conference, certainly one of the most injured in conference, but certainly nowhere near the worst. They’re a difficult team on most nights to really get a bead on…but at least one thing rings true.
They certainly didn’t trade their best defenseman to the Wild. That sure happened.
In general the Canucks have been committed to pulling the drag chute and probably paying attention more to Gavin McKenna at the World Juniors rather than anything their team is doing. They’re coming into this one having nursed a hideous 6-3 loss to the Sharks as well as a 5-2 loss to Philly, so one would assume they’re desperate for even the slightest drop of relief from their schedule.
The Kraken need to watch out, however. While the ‘Nucks definitely give up goals they can also go into boat race games at the drop of a hat. It hasn’t happened recently against a good team, but they certainly can do that. They’ll also need to keep an eye out for Kiefer Sherwood, who has been surging through the last few months into a dangerous scoring threat. If they can keep Sherwood, as well as break up the passing momentum of Elias Pettersson’s line, then they should be able to continue these good times and maybe flirt with the wildcard a little bit?
This year is so weird that this could even be a thought.
LET’S GO KRAKEN, LET’S GO SQUIDS!
