Game Preview
Life has been bad for the Kraken lately. They’ve lost 4 straight, they’ve tumbled out of a playoff spot, their offense is failing alongside a truly bizarre amount of defensive gaffes that make them look sizeably worse than their record suggests, and their best, most engaged players are playing both on the fourth line or are one guy in a sea of dudes playing like plugs.
Oh yeah, and they haven’t had Bobby McMann, the guy they traded for this trade deadline, the centerpiece of what they apparently want the team to be, this whole time thanks to visa bulls#!t.
Mercifully, there are two positives; they might get to play him tonight, and that they play the Canucks; the only team having a worse time than Seattle is.
Waxing poetic about their issues at this point is pointless; you know they’re bad, I know they’re bad, and they’re probably gonna be trying to move Elias Pettersson and agonize how he somehow finds a way to be a good player again while they begin rebuilding. They’ve won recently, so we cannot rule out the idea that they could ride the momentum to beat the Kraken, but it’s becoming abundantly clear that they should be more concerned about a top 5 pick than any points in the standings.
The Kraken meanwhile…are lurching dangerously towards that conversation presumably by what they would consider accident. In dropping out of the playoff picture they could end up with a top 10 pick; something the organization is probably not super happy is now in the cards for them.
Mercifully, the Canucks are still very much themselves; they can be taken out by attacking the middle of the ice and forcing their goaltending, which has not been very good, to try and be the hero.
Really, I just don’t want to get to a five game losing streak, otherwise I gotta start sprucing up a little thought exercise I’ve been working on regarding The Team™ and it’s philosophy, because this is for the birds.
It should be about the Squids, man.
