There is nothing pithy to say here anymore. The Kraken need this win and badly.
Bit of a shame then that the Kraken are rolling into a battle with the Blue Jackets, who also need this win and badly.
The Kraken need it because even if they are out of a playoff spot, the Pacific Division is bad enough that a win would leapfrog the Kings. Further, it also puts some distance between them and the Predators, who are starting to climb the standings to see an uneasy opportunity to get back to the NHL Playoffs. The Jackets meanwhile, want to take advantage of the Islanders’ fall by solidifying their place in the conference standings.
If there’s anything the Kraken need to do, it’s to start showing some real pride in what they’re doing here; losing to Nashville right now isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the world, but they were able to walk all over them, and the net-front defense has been spectacularly poor since the return from the Olympics. This needs to end and quickly in order for them to find the two points they need. Their best opportunity to do that is against the Jackets’ penalty kill, where it is currently hovering at 23rd.
They need to get this done, or there will be some questions.
