But first, the Highlights!:

Game Notes:

  • Your TOI leader was Adam Larsson, who logged 27:40 tonight!
  • The Kraken could not have asked for a better start to this game. Through the first 20 minutes they absolutely held the Avs under an industrial press and they looked completely out of sorts. They got a goal-against, but after that, all the best shots of the night came off Seattle Sticks. Colorado then had to try and break down against the transition defense of the Kraken, and given that a good portion of their offense comes off the rush? Made for an extremely difficult game for the Avs. The Kraken shocked this team in the best way by making them otherwise look bad.
  • Of course, the Kraken also had some unreal defensive efforts throughout the lineup alongside Philipp motherloving Grubauer playing out of his gourd, making the game that much harder for the Avalanche. This was an unbelievable place to start the playoffs.
  • Yet more power play trouble. They were 0-for-3 in this game and there’s got to be a little emphasis on getting that part of their game together. This is where the Avs can absolutely get back into things because they’re not going 0-for-2 every game. Still, excellent work by the Squids on the PK.
  • Of course, now the Avs are gonna try and split the series. If you thought this game was intense, then you haven’t seen anything yet. The Avs are gonna come back to this series MAD.

Let’s give a hand to:

  • PHILIPP. ACTUAL. GRUBAUER. Grubauer needed to be more than himself today. He needed to be the player the Kraken hoped they had acquired early on in their organizational lives. He needed to be an absolute stud. And buddy, he absolutely NAILED it. 29 saves, a .971 SV% and was absolutely massive all night. Well. Done. Grubert. I knew you had it in you.
  • Eeli Tolvanen!: For scoring the VERY FIRST Seattle Kraken Playoff goal and having an overall exceptional game, controlling the puck throughout and driving offense.
  • Alex Wennberg!: For putting the Kraken up 3-1 with an unreal shot. See what happens when you shoot, Alex? Good things happen!
  • Daniel Sprong: Had himself a real fun game where he led the team in unblocked shots-for. If only he’d capitalized, then he for sure would’ve received a star tonight.

Keep calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.

Let’s relive the game through the NaturalStatTrick charts!:

The Kraken get a day off for practice, and then it’s right back at it in Denver for game 2. That game drops the puck at 6:30PT.

We will SEE YOU THERE!
