Kraken Captain Eberle Wins The Game, Then Steals The Show

Sportsnet Screengrab

After Jordan Eberle scored a dramatic overtime goal to beat the Calgary Flames, the Seattle Kraken captain’s big Saturday night wasn’t nearly over. A quick dressing room celly and shower, then a hop over to Scott Oake’s “After Hours” show for a live 20-minute chat coast-to-coast in Canada.

Here’s the highlights of their conversation.

Five Goals In Six Games Not A Big Deal

“As you get older you don’t care about statistics, that sort of thing. You just want to win. I don’t have many years left. I just want to win a Cup.”

Making Music With His Friends

During his days with the Islanders, Eberle and two teammates penned a team fight song during a road trip.

“In Long Island, me, Matt Barzal and Anders Lee used to take our guitars on the road. We wrote some songs. I enjoy playing. It works different muscles in your brain. My kids sing along with me. I’m a terrible singer, but I don’t think you can play (guitar) without singing.”

Leaving A Surging Islanders Team In 2021 Expansion Draft

“If we’re being honest, I was devastated when they picked me. We had gone for a couple of years to the conference finals. To get picked up (by Seattle) was tough. The first year of expansion was a hard year here.”

Not Anti-Social, Just Anti-Social Media

“It’s been a long time since I had social media. I’m happy without it. I’d gone through some tough times in Edmonton. I don’t care how mentally strong you are; you read comments after games. I decided to get rid of it. The only negative part of it is, if something happens in the world, I’m not up to date.”

Captains Not Required To Dispense Much Discipline

“The kids come now, they’re so professional. The game has changed in the fact that you’re playing every second day. The game is so fast and physical, you have to be prepared, you have to be dialed in each night. You can’t go out the night before and have any fun. Even when I was younger, that wasn’t really a thing. If you had a couple of nights (off), possibly.”
