I’m not even mad about the result, this was a fun game all the way through.

But First, the Highlights!

Game Notes

  • Your TOI leader was Brandon Montour, who logged 24:56 tonight.
  • The Kraken hit this game on all cylinders…for at least the first 20 minutes, then recovered after the Caps began to impose themselves on a game ever so slowly, until the Caps dropped 11 shots on goal in the third period, and finally established some zone time. Otherwise, the Kraken did a wonderful job taking advantage of the sleepy opponent and keeping it close until the final 5 minutes. The score doesn’t really reflect the effort on display; the Kraken really did have a game that could’ve easily ended with this as a 3-2 victory rather than a 4-2 defeat; just a late goal from sustained offensive pressure and a failed bid with Daccord out of the net. If the goal for the rest of the year is to suck for draft position, I’d at least like the Kraken to make their opponents sweat the entire way, and for the most part they did so.
  • In the third period, the Kraken and Caps filled the penalty boxes to capacity after a missed holding call lead to an all-out brawl from the 4th line. Brandon Duhaime decided that he wanted to be an MMA fighter in the middle of all that and throw some mounted elbows on John Hayden, and eventually had the Kraken end up with the power play at the end of all of that. We suggest if he’s gonna work on his ground game like he did, he ought to do it in the confines of a gym and not on a quarter-inch thick plane of ice, you actual living breathing maniac.
  • Coach Jessica, I’m glad you got this opportunity, but you gotta come up with an answer for this power play once April comes around, because you aren’t getting the most out of your players while up a man. Four chances on the power play and a short-handed goal against. Something needs to be done about it, it’s reaching supernatural levels of bad.
  • Joey Daccord finished his night with an .870 SV% on 23 shots. In fairness to Joey, he was screened on goals two and three against, and as I think we’ve made clear; isn’t getting a ton of help from his defense. That said, this was a game where he didn’t really have to do a whole lot, so one would hope he comes away from this with the need to improve.

Was there anything good about this game?

Sure!

  • Draft Position Bay beeeeeeee- Glenn will fill you in on how that’s going.
  • Shane Wright opened the scoring for Seattle with his 15th of the year off a pretty little passing play with Larsson and Burakovsky. He’s making himself a genuine case for more ice time little by little each game, and frankly I feel like he’s already getting to the point that we can start giving him some heavier assignments.
  • Jordan Eberle tied the game on a lovely little transition play between himself and Chandler Stephenson as Eeli Tolvanen kept the puck while under fire. It’s nice to see him scoring after being out for so long!
  • Adam Larsson is on a 4 game points streak, and continues his on Wright’s goal!

It’s a shame they couldn’t pull this together. This was an effort you could win with.

The Kraken finally come home and face the Montreal Canadiens back at Climate Pledge Arena on Wednesday, March 12th. That game drops the puck at 7:30pm PST, so expect some french bellyaching over at Eyes on the Prize over it.

Thank you for reading, and as always…

Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.
