Jacob Melanson suspended 2 games for illegal check to the head

Jacob Melanson just became the first Kraken player in franchise history to be suspended. The NHL Department of Player Safety announced on Tuesday evening that Melanson has been suspended for two games for an illegal check to the head of Oilers forward James Hamblin.

Hamblin was shaken up on the play, but fortunately wasn’t seriously injured. He was back on the ice later in the game.

Melanson has always played a physical game. Last season with the Acadie–Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL, Melanson racked up 85 penalty minutes in 54 regular season games. He also tallied 35 goals and 56 points for the Titan. In Monday’s preseason contest, however, he got a little too aggressive and won’t be eligible to play another game until Saturday’s preseason contest against Vancouver.
