The PWHL Seattle Torrent split a pair of pre-season scrimmages over the weekend with their expansion cousins, the Vancouver Goldeneyes. Both games were played at Pacific Coliseum, home of the Goldeneyes.
Seattle won the Sunday contest 4-2, after dropping Saturday’s game 3-0. The Torrent and Goldeneyes will reconvene on the same Pacific Coliseum ice surface for each team’s franchise opener, Friday, Nov. 21.

Although the Torrent penalty kill got more opportunities this weekend than coach Steve O’Rourke would have preferred, Seattle’s PK didn’t allow a goal on four Vancouver chances on Saturday, and four more on Sunday. The Torrent went 0-2 on the power play Saturday, and didn’t have a man advantage chance on Sunday.
The games weren’t open to media or fans.

Vancouver led in hits, 16-14.

Captain Knight
To the surprise of absolutely no one, veteran forward Hilary Knight has been named Torrent captain. Saying as much was Seattle Kraken assistant coach Jessica Campbell, who on Friday presented Knight with her ‘C’-emblazoned Torrent jersey, and admitted as a playing opponent, “chasing her around.”
From a team press release: “Knight is no stranger to having the ‘C’ on her jersey, having captained the Boston Fleet in its first two PWHL seasons, and as Team USA’s captain since 2023, leading the team to gold at the 2023 and 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championships.
“The Sun Valley, Idaho native was a finalist for the 2024-25 PWHL Forward of the Year and Billie Jean King MVP awards, before becoming the first player to sign with the Torrent ahead of the team’s inaugural campaign.

“Knight has represented the United States at four straight Olympics, winning one gold and three silver medals, and at a record 15 IIHF Women’s World Championships, capturing 10 golds and five silvers. She is the tournament’s all-time leader in goals, assists and points, and holds the record for most Olympic games played by a U.S. women’s hockey player.”
