A quartet of highly touted Seattle Kraken forward prospects have now dispersed, taking with them the September training camp experiences they hope will one day lead them back to Seattle.
2024 1st round pick Berkly Catton (above photo), who drew raves at camp, is back in Spokane with the WHL Chiefs. 2023 1st round choice Eduard Sale, who scored a preseason goal in Edmonton, is currently on the roster of AHL Coachella Valley.
A pair of Seattle’s 2022 2nd round picks will also be making their pro debuts with the Firebirds: Jagger Firkus, whose 126-point season for Moose Jaw earned him the nickname “Firkus Circus,” and David Goyette, who put up 117 points for Sudbury.
Mentoring these prospects at rookie and training camp was Derek Laxdal, new coach of the Firebirds. He also coached the youngsters in a pair of rookie games against counterparts from Colorado and Vegas. From those up-close looks, Laxdal shares his observations about Catton, Sale, Firkus and Goyette.
