Forslund Reveals How Kraken TV Trio Built Chemistry Which Elevates Telecasts

Note: This is the third of four videos with Seattle Kraken TV voice John Forslund.

To the best of our knowledge, there’s never been a TED Talk devoted to hockey broadcasting. There’s never been a free master class on what unlocks the magic in hockey announcing.

Until now.

John Forslund is more than qualified to lead the discussion; he’s entering his fourth season as the beloved TV play-by-play voice on Seattle Kraken telecasts. It’s the latest chapter of Forslund’s four-decade career, which has included years of national assignments on both TV and radio.

This season, with Kraken games moving to over-the-air channels (KONG 6/16 and KING 5 in Seattle), vastly more viewers will find out why Forslund, Eddie Olczyk, and J.T. Brown are considered one of the best local TV trios in the NHL.

The newly-named Kraken Hockey Network (KHN) also this week announced a pair of game hosts. One is Ian Furness, who hosts the midday show on Kraken radio flagship station KJR-FM. The other? Just the anchor of 5,000+ ESPN Sportscenters during the last 32 years.

But you don’t have to be an aspiring sportscaster to be mesmerized by the insights Forslund shares. He’s not talking nuts-and-bolts, like how to use game notes. Instead, John graciously peels back the curtain to reveal how chemistry is every bit as important among booth-mates as it is among linemates. It’s the first of a two-part Kraken Reaction conversation about Kraken TV.
