What happened in Game 1?
The Firebirds went over to Ontario with a nice big sand blasted belt and brought another desert-whuppin’ to their Pacific Division foes.
Rest of the Series Preview
The Firebirds took an early lead in this series off the backs of two players that came alive during their Round 1 series against the Condors: Forward JR Avon continuing to play like a man possessed; perhaps aware that with the organization in flux that he could absolutely find a place for himself in the Kraken lineup at some point in the near future, and Oscar Fisker-Molgaard; who has distinguished himself as the star of the playoffs for Coachella Valley, the first round of the AHL playoffs, and of the playoffs in general; currently sitting on a league leading 6 points and league leading 4 goals.
The critical thing is keeping Nikke Kokko’s job from getting difficult. The Reign through the regular season were an absolute goalscoring machine; sitting in a tie for 8th in the league in goals scored with Colorado and Syracuse, with the Firebirds close behind. Further, the Reign had the Firebirds number during the regular season; winning 5 of their 8 meetings; a good portion of them by one goal. Coachella needs to treat this team like they’re a bomb of goals-against ready to go off at any time, and thus need to defuse their attack as soon as possible. A 2 game series lead would be killer coming out of tonight, and they will need every last member of the Firebirds faithful to find their fury in a ferocious fight to the finish.
