With apologies to Frank Sinatra…
Someday, when I’m awfully low
When the world is cold
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you won tonight
For the rest of the 2024-25 Seattle Kraken season and many to come, no matter how long a losing streak, no matter how far from a playoff berth, fans will always have the warming memories of December 28, 2024 in Vancouver, BC.
That’s the day the Kraken rallied for three goals in the final five minutes of regulation against the Canucks, to turn a hopeless 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 overtime win – just the third time such a feat had been accomplished in more than a century of NHL hockey. And the day Vince Dunn won the game on the first breakaway the defenseman ever remembered having.
I mean, look how happy Kraken coach Dan Bylsma is moments after the comeback was complete.
Sure, that’s the relief of ending a five game losing streak. But it’s also knowing you’ve been part of perhaps the most amazing regular-season game in franchise history.
55 minutes in, Seattle seemed headed to its sixth straight game scoring two or fewer goals. Moreover, while scoring once to tie a game with your goalie pulled for a sixth attacker is notable, the Kraken did it twice in 22 seconds – amazing in itself. More-moreover, Seattle had never won a game after trailing by as many as three goals. More-more-moreover, Seattle before last Saturday was 1-18-1 when trailing heading into the 3rd period.

As you probably guessed, that last sour headline came from The Province north of the border. Patrick Johnson’s game story is peppered with gracious comments like, “The Kraken got a pair of lucky goals to keep them in scoring range,” and “The Kraken were mostly atrocious.”
What’s better than reading about an epic comeback is hearing the replays from the broadcasters who called it in real time. The audio montage below includes both Kraken pulled-goalie goals that turned a 4-2 deficit into a 4-4 tie, plus Dunn’s game-winner. For each of the three goals, you’ll hear Kraken TV voice John Forslund and KJR radio’s Everett Fitzhugh, as well as Vancouver counterparts John Shorthouse and Brendan Batchelor. Four times the fun!
