One of the Kraken’s best players won’t be available for the start of training camp.
Wednesday evening the Kraken announced that defenseman Brandon Montour will be out of action for approximately two weeks after undergoing a procedure to remove a bursa from his ankle. A bursa is a small, fluid-filled sac that acts as a cushion between bones, tendons, and muscles around joints, which help reduce friction and allow smooth movement during physical activity. When a bursa becomes inflamed or damaged, a condition called bursitis, it can cause significant pain, swelling, and limited range of motion.
In Montour’s case, the problematic bursa required surgical removal, a procedure known as a bursectomy. This surgery is typically performed when treatments like rest, ice, anti-inflammatory medications, or corticosteroid injections fail to provide relief. The procedure involves making a small incision near the affected area and carefully removing the inflamed or damaged bursa. The body will naturally form new, healthy bursal tissue over time.
The 31-year-old has been in plenty of training camps, but with a new coach in Lane Lambert, this is a missed opportunity for Montour to get used to the new system and understanding of his teammates’ tendencies.
In addition, the Kraken announced forward Max McCormick (and Coachella Valley Firebirds captain) will not participate in training camp and is out indefinitely with a hip injury.
