Not even 11 months have passed since Dan Bylsma was introduced to the media as the second coach in the history of the Seattle Kraken.
One disappointing non-playoff season later, Byslma himself is history in Seattle, fired on Monday.
On the day he was hired, the Kraken production team wired “Disco Dan” for sound, and followed his every move with a documentary-style camera. I’ve held on to the raw footage ever since, not knowing exactly how to use it. Now, without warning, that footage has reached its expiration date.
Yet, in the same week the team owner, team president, team CEO and team general manager all lavished praise on the coach they had just shown the door, perhaps THAT was the reason to assemble the footage. To remember how hopeful the circle of coaching life with a new team always starts.
So, as you listen in the coming weeks to Kraken executives laud their new coaching hire, watch how equally excited they were about the last one. Here now, the premiere of the three-minute short, A Happier Day In Kraken-Land.
