Showcase preview
Oh my god it’s REAL HOCKEY AGAIN!
KINDA!
THEY’RE GONNA WEAR THE JERSEYS ALRIGHT I CAN PRETEND-
The Prospect Showcase is a good look at how the young boys are shaping up against their peers, and with less time than previous years to actually go through the motions of a hockey game and show their progress than ever before, these showcase games now mean a helluva lot more than they did previously. Most notably the rosters, which were previously quite full due to these being four game events in the past, are now almost exclusively players either in the AHL or just about to graduate to it, some of whom could find a spot on the big squad with a good camp and a consistent preseason.
Two of the Kraken’s more intriguing prospects, Jake O’Brien and Lukas Dragicevic, two players known for their dynamism and were looking to make a big push towards joining the big club this year, are going to be abstaining from play from either game due to precautions with an injury. Their absence will open up plenty of chances for these youths to really show their stuff before they return for preseason. Special attention should go to Oscar Fisker Molgaard, Jagger Firkus, and Jani Nyman, who had exceptional playoff runs with the Firebirds this last spring.
On the other side, of course a lot of eyes are going to be on Caleb Malholtra, the Vancouver coach’s son, and Braeden Cootes, who looks to finally get a longer shot at being a Vancouver Canuck full-time. Hell, given where the Canucks are at, there’s a good chance a lot of this roster could crawl into the big leagues at some point or another. Keep an eye out.
Finally, the big trick of these prospect games is that they are often a chore to watch simply because they’re being streamed via camcorder most of the time and i dunno if you’ve ever tried working something out for a similar service, but it can be Quite Hard so we’ll be keeping an eye out to see if the Kraken or Canucks are streaming the game on their websites, and update this post accordingly. So keep your F5 key at the ready!
LET’S GO (baby) KRAKEN
