Game 56 RECAP: Kraken end Wings’ winning ways in 4-2 win!

A back and forth contest got the Kraken over a surging Detroit on the back of Jordan Eberle, Matty B, and Philipp Grubauer!

The driver’s seat for your playoff ambitions sure is comfy.

But first, the Highlights!

Game Notes:

  • Your TOI leader was Adam Larsson, who finished his night just over 24:03
  • Boy I hope Hakstol gives these boys a short practice today, because last night was chaos. Both sides trading Grade-A scoring chances back and forth without stopping for 60 straight minutes; the sole difference being some unbelievable shots that leaked straight through Ville Husso thanks to Jordan Eberle, and some very nifty passing from Matty Beniers who could’ve easily finished his night with a goal. The top line was ferocious against Detroit tonight and a key contributor to the win.
  • Also contributing big time to this win was Philipp Grubauer, who finally got some goal support for once, posting a respectable .913 SV% and standing on his head through the final 20 minutes when the Red Wings finally started to pick up their game. Good work, Grubert!
  • 40 points for Matty B. He’s doing all of this while being 20 years old and playing like he’s been here since the Jets were in Winnipeg the first time. We’re not worthy.
  • Eeli Tolvanen popped another goal today, ensuring Nashville fans who were already having a great time thanks to their brutal last couple of games, touchdown against Florida notwithstanding. The waiver wire can be really useful if you know your stuff, kids!
  • Brandon Tanev at the end of this game was the most penalized-on man in existence and only two calls got made on him? Tyler Bertuzzi must have some good lawyering skills, he ought to take them elsewhere where he can’t cause Turbo any trouble.
  • Even at the end of all that, the Kraken couldn’t rely on the Coyotes to finish out the comeback (in hindsight, perhaps a dumb call from the start) or the Lightning to beat the Golden Knights, so third place it is with a three point lead over Edmonton. Third place will have to do right now; they’re getting the same amount of help from the schedule through the weekend and into the week that the Knights and Kings are, so they might as well finish up on Monday with a big W.
  • Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.
This is what “nearly every shot being quality” looks like. Crazy stuff from both teams.

The Kraken get a day off for travel, and then are inexplicably playing the Sharks in a Matinee like a stunning amount of the NHL is at 1pm PT on a Monday.

I can see if you’re doing this like the week Spring Break gets out but...the middle of February? People are still in school right now.

Oh well, we’ll see you there anyway.
