Kraken Game 42 PREVIEW: vs. Chicago!

Hot off the heels of an extremely strong win, the Kraken...face a team that isn’t nearly as good.

NHL: Seattle Kraken at Chicago Blackhawks Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

The Need to Knows:

The Time: 5pm PT

The Place: United Center, Chicago, Illinois

Place to Watch: ROOT Northwest

Place to Listen: KJR 93.3fm

An Opposing Viewpoint: Second City Hockey

Know Your Enemy:

  • The Kraken’s opponent went from being the best team in the game...to a team tied for the worst. The Blackhawks are nursing a 11-25-3 record, which is good for 26 points.
  • Leading the Hawks in points is Max Domi, who has 28 points in 40 games. He’s also the leading goal scorer for the Hawks with 12.
  • This has been a very bad year for Patrick Kane, the star winger of the Hawks, who’s only got 5 even-strength goals, 27 points, and is currently on Injured Reserve, though he definitely seems ready to try to get back into it.
  • Jonathan Toews and Andreas Athanasiou are currently tied at 11 goals in 40ish games.
  • Alex Stalock is technically the better goaltender of the two: boasting a just barely over .500 record and .923 SV%. Petr Mrazek meanwhile has been uh...really, really bad. He has a .882 SV% in 15 starts and not a lot of victories.

Game Notes:

So! The Kraken are riding high on a seven game win streak and having just beat the Boston Bruins in the most convincing game they’ve played all year.

You’d figure that they’d be rolling into this one expecting an easy win from a decrepit Blackhawks squad, right? Don’t be fooled...mostly.

While they are exceptionally (but some might say justifiably) quite bad, they are pulling off some gutsy wins lately: not against especially great teams, but a win streak is a win streak is a win streak. With the potential return of Patrick Kane, there’s a good chance that Chicago will be trying to try and cause a little stumble. But not too hard! Connor Bedard is really good.

Will the Hawks get a shock win? Or will the Kraken complete the road trip perfectly?

We’ll find out at 5!
