Welcome to Monday (sorry to remind you that it’s Monday). Here’s the latest news and notes from around the NHL and especially around your Seattle Kraken.

What’s Kraken

  • The Kraken hired a new assistant coach in Dave Lowry [DJLR]
  • Seahawks running back Deejay Dallas channeled his inner Branden Tanev for his team photo this year
  • Ryan Donato popped the question, and she said yes!
  • The Coachella Valley Firebirds will play one game at Climate Pledge Arena and one game at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, tickets for whichgo on sale to the general public on August 22 at 10am PDT [Seattle Kraken]
  • Jordan Eberle joins the rest of the Kraken fans as a big fan of the offseason additions by the front office [Seattle Sports 710]
  • The Kraken confirmed that longtime Chicago Blackhawks broadcaster Eddie Olczyk will join the Kraken broadcast crew this season [Seattle Kraken]

Around the NHL

  • The final games of the preliminary round of the IIHF World Juniors get played on Monday. Canada takes on Finland at 3pm PDT, and the winner of this one will take first place in Group A. Team USA already locked up first place in Group B, but perhaps the most exciting part of the tournament so far is Latvia earning their first spot in the quarterfinals ever.
  • The Flames locked up Jonathan Huberdeau for 8 years — a pretty good consolation prize for losing both Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau this offseason [Calgary Flames]
  • David Krejci is returning to Boston on a one-year deal [Boston Bruins]
  • The Sabres signed Kraken fourth-line stalwart Riley Sheahan to a one-year deal [Buffalo Sabres]
