Report: Kraken signing defender Justin Schultz

Seattle is reportedly signing right-shot-defender Justin Schultz to a 2-year contract valued around $3 million per year, according to Elliotte Friedman.

Schultz is a far cry from John Klingberg, the big right-handed defender we’ve all been waiting for. But he also comes at a much better price. This is a fairly low-risk deal for Seattle, who now add a third right-handed shot to their blue line.

His best seasons were in Pittsburgh, where he amassed 113 points in 234 games and won two Stanley Cups. he hasn’t played quite as well in the last two years with the Washington Capitals, where he had a +/- rating of -3 and dropped to under 17 minutes of ice time per game for the first time in his career. He likely slots in as a capable third-pair defender in Seattle right now.
