The Kraken had quite the eventful Trade Deadline Eve, sending four players away on Sunday alone, but they aren’t quite done. On Monday morning it was reported that forward Marcus Johansson is being sent to the Washington Capitals, the franchise with which he began his career.
Hearing the Kraken's return for trading Marcus Johansson is Daniel Sprong, a 2022 fourth-round pick and a 2023 sixth-round pick. #SeaKraken

Johansson played 501 career games in Washington across seven years, scoring 102 goals and 290 points. His career sputtered a bit after that, playing on four teams in four years before signing as a free agent with the Kraken this past summer. He notched 23 points in 51 games for Seattle and took on a prominent role among the forward group. He was the primary left wing on the top line after Jaden Schwartz went down and frequently played on the top power play unit. While his numbers haven’t been incredibly impressive, he’s still capable of making beautiful plays like this one:

In return, the Kraken receive two late-round draft picks, bringing their total to 12 picks this year and 34 over the next three years. Clearly the vision for this team is to draft and develop, and they’ve got the ammunition to do just that.
In addition to the picks, Seattle will be getting forward Daniel Sprong as part of the deal. This is the first player Seattle has acquired via trade in franchise history. The 25-year old Sprong is a bottom-six forward who isn’t especially great defensively but does provide some offensive upside with a great shot. Think of him as another Ryan Donato.
Sprong is younger with more offensive upside than Johansson, but isn't as strong defensively. This makes less sense for the Capitals. pic.twitter.com/h3qLUYThpG

Seattle now has exactly 12 forwards and 6 defensemen on their NHL roster, just enough for a gameday lineup.
