Know Your Enemy

  • This might shock you but Alex Ovechkin is in fact the leading goals-corer for the Washington Capitals, with 15 in 28 games and is currently gunning for Wayne Gretzky’s place on the all-time NHL career goals leader list, with Gordie Howe his next closest with 801. He has 795 right now.
  • Leading the Caps in assists right now is Evgeny Kuznetsov, with 17 in his last 27 games, much of whom were powerplay points.
  • Darcy Kuemper hasn’t fallen off much, having a respectable .916 SV% through 20 starts...though he’s just under .500 on record, and also day-to-day. Behind him is Charlie Lindgren, who has a .902 SV% in 10 starts.

Game Preview

For the Caps, the entire goal of this year is more or less to see how far they can take their roster before they have to make some painful changes, and of course, to see how far up the NHL Career goals list they can push Ovie up. It’s been a bit of a rough time for it however, since it seems like Ovie is the only player right now actually trying to shoot for the Caps; they’ve become an extremely uneven team where scoring comes in fits and starts like a temperamental engine coming to life. It’s led to them having an essentially .500 record, but a 2-game winning streak just after breaking a 2-game losing streak.

The Kraken meanwhile...need to get right. Currently on a 2-game losing streak, they’ve seen some brutal defensive and goaltending play over the past couple of days and they need to find a way to break that, and being on the road with a number of very tough games incoming, this is the one game where a team going through it could get momentum going in the right direction for Seattle.

Will the Kraken right the ship? or will they be Capped off by Ovechkin and his merry band of extras? We’ll find out at 4!
