Matty Beniers officially named to Team USA’s olympic roster!

Finally, for two weeks in February…Kraken fans will get to watch hockey games with stakes.

That was mean, I’m a little heated from the Stars loss. I’m sorry.

Anyway, after speculation that he would be invited to join the team, Matthew Beniers was officially named to Team USA’s roster alongside several ex-NHL vets and some other interesting college prospects! This was intended to be shown at an ESPN special but as it turns out, whoever they put in charge of this is actually pretty bad at keeping secrets, because an agent was able to get the news out first:

Somebody really should tell the Worldwide Leader in Sports that hockey people tend to like to put info like this out there the minute they get reasonable confirmation about it and are generally averse to surprises. You might remember that almost all of the Kraken’s expansion draft picks were leaked hours before the event was actually supposed to take place for similar reasons.

Of course, given that a large number of these guys have been playing overseas in leagues where a 480p stream requires a VPN to safely watch, a little introduction to most of them wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Good luck to Matt when he heads off to Beijing! And keep watch on this space, because we’ll also be doing some coverage of the men’s and women’s tournament just before it begins!
