Kraken Announce their captains: Giordano is the skipper, has almost half the top-6 as alternates

The Kraken announced bright and early today that have officially chosen their on-ice leadership for the inaugural season’s team, starting of course with the guy who’s spent the most amount of time as a Captain anywhere on this roster; Mark Giordano. The first man to wear the “C” for Seattle in 40 years.

Gio is no stranger to leadership, having been one of the best players and stabilizing presences on the Calgary Flames for years, as well as one of the longest tenured…well…up until recently.

Alongside him, the Kraken announced that Adam Larsson will be serving as an alternate captain on the blue line. They will be backed up on their alternate captaincy with that murderer’s row of forwards; Yanni Gourde, Jordan Eberle, and Jaden Schwartz, all of whom veterans who’ve more than proven themselves worthy of the task. In particular, after years of suffering as an Oiler, it just feels good to know that Eberle will finally get the chance to be appreciated.

From a pragmatic viewpoint it also works out in their favor; given how Gio’s not exactly a spring chicken, it gives the team plenty of options if something happens to him or if he decides he is getting too long in the tooth for this. I don’t see that being a problem in the near future however, so declaring an heir apparent is something we can do during the season.

So there you have it! Your five leaders on-ice for the Kraken! If you got one of their jerseys before they got their letters, congrats! You now have a collector’s item!
